Simple Bread Stuffing

Yield: 6-8 servings

Active Time:   20 minutes   Total Time: 1 hour


                1 loaf bread, cut into cubes

                ¼ lb. bacon, cut into small pieces

               1 c. onion, finely chopped

               2 tsp. salt

               1 tsp. pepper

               1T. poultry seasoning

               ½ – 1 c. turkey or chicken broth


  1. Preheat oven to 325F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the bread, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning until evenly distributed.
  3. Cook the bacon until crisp.  Remove from pan and add to bread.  Cook the onion in the bacon drippings until translucent.  Add to the bread and seasonings and mix gently.
  4. Add broth to taste, and mix again.
  5. Put into a buttered casserole dish, cover and bake for 30 minutes.  Uncover and bake for 10 minutes.

Notes:  This can be prepped up to two days in advance, and then baked on Thanksgiving.

If using to stuff a turkey, omit the broth.
